Central America
The Central American section is to the east, and several other well-recognized faces appear– Calliandras, Cannas, Hippeastrums, tree dahlias, and the morning glories. At the corner of S. America is a fruit salad guava
The spiky trunk of the Floss silk tree (Chorisia insignis) shows how a tree adapts to thwart animals seeking the flowers and fruit – in this case monkeys.
There are several trees displayed here with interesting names – either descriptive of the flower or the function of the tree: look for lipstick tree, the shaving brush tree, the ice-cream tree, and the calabash tree.
